The ASMU is a simple script designed to take advantage of parts of Windows that maintain & clean your system, that normally can only be used through the command prompt (also sometimes referred to as the Console or DOS-WINDOW), thus making them difficult to use for most.
SETUP
Many scripts can be dangerous, so Windows tries to stop any, and we need to get around that.
You can download it HERE
When you click on the link, your web browser will ask if you actually want to download the file; you'll need to select "yes", "allow", "continue", or something similar based on your browser.
Once downloaded, your system won't let you run it.
Go to the downloaded fie, right-click on it, and select "Properties". In the window that pops up, check the "Unblock" box, then click OK.
RUNNING THE ASMU
If you've done everything correctly, you should be able to right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator". A window will pop up asking if you're sure you want to run it; select "YES"
When the program runs, it will be a small text window asking you yes/no questions, then do its thing.
NOTE: it can potentially take several hours for all checks to run. Make sure you you can leave your system on while these checks are running.
If you don't know what's wrong with your system, and you want a general clean-up, enter "y" at the first prompt, then "1" on the follow-up question.
For a FULL system-scan, "y", then "2".
INDIVIDUAL CHECKS
DISM: Deployment Image Servicing and Management, this looks for parts of your OS that are corrupt or lost, and repairs or replaces them. It's designed to work in conjunction with SFC.
SFC: this is the System File Checker. It does a scan of some of your system files to fix them if they're damaged.
MALWARE: this uses Windows Defender, and can either do a quick scan of the most important files (1), a scan of ALL files on ALL drives on your system (2; the longest check), or scan all files in your OS (3; a balance between 1 & 2). This can take a little while to complete. If you don't have an internet connection, it won't have the latest updates. Additionally, if you have some other Malware/Anti-Virus installed on your PC, this step may be skipped when the ASMU runs. You should use that M/AV software to check instead.
CHECKDISK: used to scan the actual, physical hard-drive of your system for errors & defects. In the process, it looks for lost or misplaced files. Depending on the size of your drive, this can take hours. It also can't be run while you're using your system, so it has to reboot, and run before Windows starts. After all other checks are done, your system will restart, and chkdisk will run. It is important that you do NOT press anything on your system and do NOT turn it off while this check is running; doing so could corrupt your OS even worse if it's in the middle of repairing a sensitive file.
